They just couldn't wait for Book 7. They needed to start the apocalypse early.

Edit: Apparently there are book 7 spoilers in there somewhere, maybe. I read most of the legally-minded threads on p. 1 and didn't see anything, and that seems to be where most of the discussion is going on.
